Managing Partner | Founder

Jana K. Jones is a Charlotte native whose life and career have been rooted in advocacy, education, and service. A graduate of East Mecklenburg High School, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she graduated on the Dean’s List and was inducted into the university’s Sociological Honor Society. During her undergraduate years, she was also a member of Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity and received both the Academic Achievement Award and the National Dean’s List Multiple Year Award.

While at UNC–Chapel Hill, Jana dedicated her time to mentoring and community engagement. She worked with Carrboro’s Teens Climb High and Durham’s Standard’s Based Solutions, supporting students through structured mentorship programs. She also participated in UNC’s MANO Program, providing English-as-a-Second-Language instruction and mentorship to immigrant women.

Her foundation in sociology shaped her understanding of family systems, community dynamics, and the profound role parents play in a child’s development—insight that continues to guide her legal practice today.

Law School & Public Service

Jana earned her Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law, where she deepened her focus on child and family advocacy. During law school, she worked with the Center for Child and Family Health (CCFH) in Durham, drafting grant proposals and preparing evidentiary memoranda addressing complex legal issues, including the medical diagnosis exception to the hearsay rule and expert testimony in child abuse cases.

Her work extended beyond research. As a member of Durham’s Domestic Violence Response Team and Sexual Assault Response Team, Jana collaborated with law enforcement, SANE nurses, and community stakeholders to address and reduce domestic violence and sexual assault in the Durham community.

While at NCCU Law, she was trained and certified as a mediator through the North Carolina Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission and mediated cases in Wake County. She also participated in the Innocence Project, supporting efforts to exonerate the wrongly convicted through DNA testing. For her commitment to public service, she was awarded the North Carolina Bar Association’s Certificate of Achievement for Public Service.

Bobby R. Jones Jr. serves as the Director of Operations & Marketing for the Law Office of Jana K. Jones, PLLC. He brings more than 24 years of experience in government service and management, having begun his career in government at the age of 19. Working within the system from an early age gave Bobby a firsthand understanding of how legal and administrative processes operate behind the scenes and how those processes shape the experiences of individuals and families navigating the legal system.

While Bobby does not work directly with clients, his role is essential to the firm’s success. In addition to overseeing operations and growth strategy, he focuses on building and maintaining strong relationships with community partners, referral sources, and professional organizations. These partnerships help expand the firm’s reach and strengthen its connection to the community it serves. Drawing on his government background and leadership experience, Bobby builds the operational, intake, and marketing infrastructure that supports a clear, consistent, and client-centered experience, allowing the legal team to remain focused on advocacy and representation.

In his role, Bobby oversees the firm’s operations, strategic planning, marketing initiatives, and long-term growth strategy. He focuses on process optimization, performance tracking, brand development, and aligning day-to-day operations with the firm’s mission and business goals. His work ensures the firm operates with clarity, efficiency, and sustainability as it continues to grow.

Bobby is deeply committed to building the firm alongside his wife, Jana, as a family business grounded in integrity, purpose, and service. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, experiencing great food, and spending quality time with his wife and daughter. These moments reinforce the importance of balance, perspective, and legacy both personally and professionally.

With more than 24 years of experience in the legal field, Heather Hinson serves as the firm’s Senior Paralegal and a trusted pillar of support for both clients and Jana. Throughout her career, Heather has worked across a wide range of practice areas, including family law, civil litigation, wills and estates, workers’ compensation, personal injury, adoptions, name changes, and collaborative law experience that allows her to bring depth, perspective, and stability to every matter she handles.

Heather was drawn to the legal profession by a desire to work directly with people during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. She is known for balancing strong legal skills with clear, compassionate communication, ensuring clients feel informed, supported, and respected throughout the legal process.

In her role at the firm, Heather manages cases from intake through resolution, drafts and organizes pleadings and agreements, prepares matters for hearings and trial, coordinates with clients and opposing counsel, and helps ensure deadlines and case flow are handled with precision. She works closely with Jana to keep matters moving efficiently while maintaining a steady, reassuring presence for clients navigating complex and emotional situations. Heather also supports the broader team by assisting with workflow coordination, organization, and reviewing work prepared by support staff.

What Heather finds most fulfilling about her work is building meaningful relationships with clients and helping bring clarity and stability during periods of transition. She takes pride in being approachable, responsive, and genuinely invested in each case, understanding that clients need both strong legal advocacy and empathy behind the scenes.

With over four years of experience in the legal field, including labor law and family law, MJ brings a steady, client-focused approach to every case from the very first interaction.

As the firm’s primary point of contact for new client inquiries, MJ manages intake, conducts initial screenings, schedules consultations, and ensures each matter begins with accurate, organized information. He works directly with Jana to support case preparation, document coordination, calendar management, and daily administrative operations, allowing the firm to remain efficient, responsive, and client-centered.

Known for his calm demeanor and clear communication, MJ helps clients feel heard, supported, and informed during what is often one of the most challenging periods of their lives. His work behind the scenes, including recordkeeping, retainer and e-signature processing, billing coordination, and productivity reporting, helps ensure each case progresses smoothly and with intention.

He brings a steady presence, clear communication, and a client-centered approach that reflects the firm’s commitment to advocacy and professionalism.

During the course of his career, John gained exposure to employment, real estate, and probate law, broadening his understanding of how legal issues often intersect in clients’ lives. Before entering the legal field, John worked as a nurse and later as a multilingual sales manager. Those experiences shaped his ability to remain calm under pressure, communicate effectively with diverse individuals, and build trust quickly, skills that are invaluable during intake conversations. Clients frequently approach the firm feeling overwhelmed, and John is intentional about ensuring they feel heard, respected, and understood from the very first interaction.
